CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

The next morning, the weather had cleared up. So we woke up early, and flew to Toledo, OH for lunch and fuel. We flew by Cleveland. Seeing cities from above is always fascinating to me. Also found out on my aviation maps that Lebron James has a waypoint that air traffic controllers use to manage flights in the vicinity of Cleveland (the waypoint is just east of the city).

We arrived in Chicago Sunday evening, and went straight to bed. Monday morning, I woke up groggy. To press through the fatigue, I worked out. I then planned their lessons and assignments for the day. The late night on Saturday, plus the fatigue of flying several hours on Sunday, caused me to put off lesson planning until Monday morning. That was a mistake, because I spent the rest of the week trying to catch up. With the help of Alice and our babysitter, the kids were able to make it through all their schoolwork for the day, but I didn’t feel as good about my preparation for them. After I got the kids set up with their schoolwork, I spoke to about 3000 students at Palatine High School, just outside of Chicago. Despite being a little fatigued, I was able to connect in very meaningful ways to the students.

They have several groups there working to make the school a more loving, encouraging place. One such group is Palatine’s Promise. They gave me one of their T-shirts.

After work, I went back to the hotel to get a little nap while Alice took the children to one of our play areas called the Treehouse. That evening, Alice and I made time to have a little date in the city, and went to one of our favorite restaurants in the city. It’s called “Chicago q”. If you ever visit the Chi, try to check it out. The ambiance is perfect for a date, and it’s food is delicious!
